The Miss Magna Scholarship Pageant is part of the Miss America Pageant System.  The following are how each pageant in this system is run:

Each Contestant Will Compete in 5 Areas of Competition:

Private Interview (25%) - Each contestant is evaluated on overall “first impression”; communication skills with a commanding presence; personality, personal appearance and beauty; validated opinions and responses; ability to fulfill job responsibilities; sense of accomplishment; and knowledge and understanding of her platform issue.

Talent (35%) - Each contestant is evaluated on overall “first impression”, technical skill level; entertainment value; stage presence; and will the Magna community be proud of her when she performs her talent if she is selected as the titleholder?

Lifestyle & Fitness in Swimsuit (15%) - The Fitness in Swimsuit portion  may take place as a stage event the night of the pageant, or as a closed event the day of interview.  For the 2013 pageant this will be a closed event.

Evening Wear (20%) - Each contestant is evaluated on overall “first impression”; beauty; sense of confidence; personality and stage presence; walk, carriage and grace; sense of style and appropriateness of the evening wear; and does she take command of the stage by simply walking onto it?

On-Stage Question (5%) - Each contestant is evaluated on overall “first impression”; charisma and stage presence to be a spokeswoman for the Miss Magna Scholarship Pageant Organization; did the contestant answer the question in context and in the time allotted?; when she answered the question did she have the commanding presence to make the audience wantto listen to her?

Pageant Myths:
  1. I have to be a "Pageant Pro" or have prior pageant experience to win. On the contrary! The most important thing is that you are yourself and exude confidence on stage and in your interview. We will provide several workshops to prepare you for all aspects of the competition.
  2. I must be "tall" to win a pageant. There is no height requirement or advantage. State and national titleholders have ranged in height from barely 5' tall to almost 6' tall.
  3. I'm too young – I'm too old. At 17 years old, Teresa Scanlan is the youngest Miss America in 90 years. Many titleholders have won in their last year of eligibility. Your preparation and confidence are more important than your age.
  4. I must patronize the pageant sponsors when preparing for competition. Resource information is given for the contestant's benefit. Our sponsors do not discuss who their clients are; and it is certainly the contestant and her family's choice who they work with.
  5. I simply cannot afford to compete. We explain how to obtain sponsorships to cover competition costs—including the required fundraising goal of $100 for Children's Miracle Network, the $50 Workshop/Production fee, and your wardrobe. Your family, friends and local business leaders will be supportive when you share your goals with them.
  6. I must be a perfect "10" in swimsuitThe swimsuit portion only accounts for 15% of the competition. While physical fitness is important, confidence and charisma are taken into account as well.
  7. I must wear the most beautiful, expensive gown in order to win.Our judges are instructed to score the contestant's poise and sense of style, not the gown itself. Winners receive a whole new wardrobe for state and national competitions.
  8. I need a "pageant coach" to help me prepare. Even though some contestants wish to seek expert advice, we do not see this reflected in the overall outcome of the pageant. Focus on being at your "personal best!"
  9. If I win, I must put my life on hold—including my career or school responsibilities. Our program is designed to foster success in every aspect of your life. We do not advocate quitting your job or school, but encourage you to use your year as our titleholder to help obtain your personal goals! In addition, preparing for and competing in the Miss Magna Scholarship Pageant whether you win or not is an incredibly rewarding experience!

    Little Miss

The Little Miss Program allows us to involve little girls in the pageant so they can have an opportunity to participate.  Each contestant can choose a Little Miss of their own that will appear with them on stage during the evening gown competition. The Little Miss is an escort for the contestant.  There is NO fee for the little miss.  The little miss will enter the auditorum for free.  However, parents and any other friends or relatives are required to purchase a ticket, and ticket sales is our main source of income and so that is why we can't let everyone related to the Little Miss in free.

We encourage you to find a young lady in the community and use this as an opportunity to mentor, involve and be an example for them.

The little miss will need to come to the Dress Rehersal to learn their part in the pageant.

There are no dress requirements for the little miss.  However, we would recommend that the contestants correlate colors so your dresses don't clash.

    Little Miss at Miss Utah
If you win the Miss Magna competition you can elect to take your little miss with you to the Miss Utah competition.  The Little Miss fee at Miss Utah is around $400 and the following rules apply:

We strongly suggest that each Little Miss is between the ages of 6-9 and must have a dress size between 6 - 12.  If you have a Little Miss in mind that doesn’t fit in this age range, prior approval is required.
You can elect to not pay the fee and the Miss Utah Organization will find a Little Miss who will pay for herself.

    Tickets

Tickets will be given to each contestant to sell before the pageant.  You are responsible for keeping the money raised from ticket sales and returning it to your pageant director.
Each contestant is required to sell at least 20 tickets.  Most contestants have told us that they are able to do this through just selling to family and close friends.

    Questions
What is butt glue and where do I get it?  - It is a spray glue that will keep your swiming suit from riding up.  You can use any type but the brand that seems to be the easiest to find is: Elmer's Multi-Purpose Aerosol Spray Adhesive.  You can get it at Walmart or any craft store.
